Marble Cake with a Chocolate Icing


  • 2cup Maida/All Purpose Flour
  • 1 tsp. Baking Powder
  • ¼ tsp. Baking Soda
  • 1 cup Powdered Sugar
  • ½ cup Butter at Room Temperature
  • 1/2 tsp. Salt
  • 1/4 cup Cocoa Powder
  • 3/4 cup Milk
  • 2 eggs
  • 1 tsp. Vanilla Essence


  • Prepare an 8 inch tin.
  • Preheat the oven at 180 degree
  • Beat the butter and sugar together till it is light and soft.
  • Add one egg at a time and beat well.
  • Add the other egg and beat again.
  • Add vanilla essence and mix.
  • Mix the flour, baking powder and salt in another bowl.
  • Add this flour mixture alternating with milk.
  • Fold the batter slowly in one direction.
  • Transfer a quarter of the batter in to a bowl.
  • Add cocoa powder to it and mix well.
  • Add milk if the mixture is too thick.
  • Pour both vanilla and chocolate batter in to the prepared pan.
  • Slightly tap the pan.
  • Run a skewer through the batter in the pan to form a pattern.
  • Bake for 25 minutes or until the toothpick inserted comes out clean.
  • Remove it from the oven and leave it in the pan itself.
  • Demold on to a wire rack and let it cool completely.

  • 2 ½ cups Icing Sugar
  • 6 tbsp. Unsweetened Cocoa Powder
  • 6 tbsp. Softened Butter
  • 2 tbsp. Milk
  • 1 tsp. Vanilla Essence


  1. Sift the icing sugar and cocoa powder and set aside.
  2. In a large bowl, beat butter until smooth
  3. Gradually add sugar and cocoa powder in to butter and incorporate.
  4. Add milk alternately with sugar and cocoa powder.
  5. Blend in vanilla.
  6. Beat until light and fluffy.
  7. Note: Can add icing sugar if it is runny or add milk if it is too thick.

  6. nice recipe for both cake and icing. Made something like this in a bundt pan…but this recipe may be better.
